Wednesday 6th of May was a day with a bit of a difference for everyone involved in Surrey Drive. As usual, we had our amazing caterers and other volunteers preparing and delivering meals to NHS staff at the Royal Surrey and beyond. But this time, one of the volunteers was Her Royal Highness The Countess Of Wessex!

Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex’s Visit

Everyone at Surrey Drive was pleased to welcome The Countess, as she came to support us and the local efforts in the coronavirus response. At the start of the day, The Countess met Melanie Williams of Lavender Catering, which is just one of the catering companies involved in Surrey Drive. Alongside Melanie and the Lavender Catering Team, The Countess helped prepare delicious meals for the Royal Surrey County Hospital Trust.

Following the meal preparation, The Countess travelled to the Royal Surrey County Hospital to deliver the meals to the NHS staff, just as our volunteers do daily. On arrival, The Countess joined more Surrey Drive volunteers to hand out the lovingly-prepared meals to the frontline NHS heroes.

The support from The Countess with Surrey Drive was a great boost to the NHS workers and the volunteers of the project. It was great to be recognised for the work that we are doing, and it certainly provided a morale boost for NHS workers and volunteers alike.

The Surrey Drive initiative managed by Surrey Event Professionals has the support of over 25 local events businesses and others. Together, we work to deliver 4,416 meals every week to the Royal Surrey County Hospital and the community hospitals that are part of the same trust. Do you want to donate to Surrey Drive to help us continue? Don’t forget, there are two ways you can do it! These are through PayPal ( and the RSCH Charity ( We truly appreciate everyone who has donated so far, we couldn’t do it without you!
