It’s been a while since we’ve updated you on what Surrey Drive is up to, but today we have an exciting new announcement, just in time to lift our spirits a little before Christmas! Two of Surrey Drive’s management team and their respective businesses have come together to form the very first Guildford’s Christmas Kitchen, Guildford’s first outdoor, Covid-secure food experience. And it’s happening really soon! Keep reading for more information about it and how you can experience it for yourself.

Who’s involved?

The driving force behind this new initiative is Jonathan Bird of Delivered Social, and Iain Booth of Inside Outside Marquees. They decided to come together and create Guildford’s Christmas Kitchen because they saw an opportunity to allow the community to come together in a Covid-safe way, enjoy some delicious food, and support charities in a fun and unusual way! After working together on the Surrey Drive project, Jonathan and Iain knew that they could work together again and make this event a great success! It’s great to see some of the Surrey Drive team coming together once again, and we’re sure that we’ll also be seeing more from many of the wonderful caterers who gave up their time and resources to feed out NHS heroes.

An idea of what the Covid-secure event setup could look like

This event will be held at the Guildford Pavilion, in a pop up street food and drink marquee! The Pavilion is a great venue offering outdoor and indoor spaces for all sorts of events. This makes it the perfect place for all of our caterers (and others!) to come together for this event, while still ensuring that everyone remains safe throughout their time there. Find out more about the venue on their website here.

The GCK team promises that there will be plenty on offer, from traditional grub, festive delights and desserts to die for, as well as two bars on-site that will be serving a selection of local beers, wines, and festive tipples for you to enjoy! So, whatever you’re into, there will be something for all tastes with the wide range of caterers who will be attending- the full list, including which caterers will be available on which days, will be released closer to the time!

The event will be taking place for six weeks on various dates throughout November and December, starting on the 12th November. So, there’s plenty of opportunities to get into the festive spirit and enjoy some delicious food and drink while you do it. And, if you are an NHS staff member, the GCK team would like to give back to you in a small way, to say thank you for all of your hard work this year. As a result, they will be offering an NHS staff discount to take advantage of at the event.

The team are also going to introduce an innovative way to support some amazing charities through the event, so keep your eyes peeled for more information about that!

To ensure that the event is as Covid-secure as possible, it will be a cashless event, and if it cannot go ahead due to Covid, full refunds will be given. Groups will be seated in their households, so there will be minimal movement around the event, and only socially-distanced, safe interaction between groups
